Outline of bible sections in Matthew, Mark,
and Luke
This site is designed to allow you to
choose from among sections within the synoptic gospels and view the
biblical text side by side for comparison. The outline follows the
Gospel of Matthew but has Luke's special material also listed. Scroll
down to see the full list and then click on the link for the passage,
for example: The Lord's Prayer...Matt
6:9-15.
The text displayed is generally the
NIV at the Bible Gateway. When the same passage appears in more than
one gospel all the passages are given, which allows you to compare
the differences between the gospels. If you wish to compare the NIV
to another Bible Gateway version, or language, go to the top and
click on the version you wish to view. (Catholics
should take care if you click on a link in Bible Gateway that leads
to a commentary. This would be from a Prostestant source. Catholics
should alwasy check with the Catechism.)
Catholics should compare the NIV with the New
American Bible which is
approved for use by Catholics in the United States. When the chapter
is displayed scroll down to the verse you are seeking.
Other links are provided to aid
research on the passage and its theology. For example, Vine's or
Easton's Bible dictionaries which are Protestant in origin.
Encyclopedia references are old but useful. The references to the
Catechism of the Catholic Church should help provide the current
authentic teaching of the church on an issue. If you wish to view all
references in the Catechism on a particular word so the
the
online index.
(Cross references marked CCC are to the
Catholic Catechism.)
